Well this is it the end of my blog as it is due tomorrow. It has been an interesting way of getting work done and helped me understand the importance of marketing as because I started early it meant I could have fun with it rather than rush it and begin to loathe it. It also gave me the idea of using a blog later in life when I am hopefully in the events industry.

Direct mailing
Here I was thinking I was finished then I suddenly remembered direct mailing. The reason I forgot about this is the fact that both events did not do alot of this and it slipped my mind.
In terms of disney they did not send information regarding the lion king musical but thay have sent me several emails about other events they do. This can be seen in the previous post and its more in terms of sale promotion for other popular events than advertising the lion king musical.
Once again the beer and cider festival organisers are keeping a lot under the radar and saving the best for its members. CAMRAs direct mail would probably be the free newspaper and magazines and within these there would be the advertising for its events.

CAMRA public relations
CAMRA once again are keeping their cards close to their chest.....again. This is ridiculous, I understand that they want to look after their own, but they could become so much more if they just spilt the beans on what they are doing and their reviews to the newbies to gain more publicity and therefore more customers.
Ive looked up the times, the guardian and the independent fro reviews, and im no further. I thought i found an answer in a review section but you need to be a member to sign in. FML

Public relations
There is a reason i left this till near the end, because I hate it but lets get on with it.
Public relations is non-personal communication which changes opinion or achieves coverage in a mass medium, which is not paid for by the source. (David Gilbert- Retail Marketing Management)
Gilbert then goes on to say that the coverage should incude space given to a press release or favourable editorial comment. It is because of this the lion king musical website has a section on awards and perhaps more importantly reviews from newspapers with relatively high readership figures.

"Pure delight floods the Lyceum Theatre."

"This is a wonderful, wonderful musical: thrilling, warm-hearted, inventive and original. 'The Lion King' will touch a deep chord in everybody."
John Peter, Sunday Times

"My jaw hit my knees... Is 'The Lion King' as good as they say it is? - Dammit Yes!"
Robert Gore-Langton, The Express

The list goes on all more or less the same thing just worded slightlty differently depended on the newspaper and its readership. The reviews from broadway are much the same only slightly over the top being american but positive all the same. However, lets be honest, I doubt Disney, the creators of the lion king musical are going to put bad reviews on its website even through there may not be that many.
Heres a short american review
"It's like being in a dream awake."

How cheesy is that! It also sounds alot like a line from the film In Bruges but worse

Beer and Cider festival sale promotion.
From what i can see Disney is much better at sales promotion than the Beer and Cider festival organisers CAMRA. From what I could find Sales promotion wise for the beer and cider festival, they seem to offer only minor incentives such as free entry at lunch time on wedensday and thursdays however this is probably because they want people to get hungry at their event and purchase their food.
Another incentive they offer for their members is discount entry but thats only by £1 which for £20 per year membership cost is not what I would call enough!
CAMRA however offer better incentives for those who want to join such as vouchers off wetherspoons and free magazines http://www.camra.org.uk/benefits
Furthermore we have to remember that comparing Disney and CAMRA is like comparing a skyscraper to a shed in terms of size and money. Disney is known world wide by young and old who both grew up with it including myself. Its hard to beat some Aladdin

Sales Promotion
Sales promotion is often confused with Advertising/Marketing promtion. Sales promotion seeks to offer buyers additional value as an inducement to generate and immediate sale(Chris Fill). Just as advertising seeks to work over the long term, sales promotion when used properly can achieve short-term upward shifts in sale.
This comes in a variety of forms ranging from such as win, which is offering customers something if they enter a competition. Another form is save or discount giving cuntomers a percentage of the original price. In my opinion a more modern form of sales promotion is the concept of cause related sales promotion in which a customer buys a product and another organisation benefits. An example of this is the idea of fair trade products in which part of the price paid goers towards the grower who is either the local farmer or a person in a developing economy. The consumer does not gain anything physical, however they gain a feel good factor which in my personal experience often comes through of pure smugness unfortunately.
Who does what?
However although the quality is rather poor, in the second email from the top you can see evidence in sales promtion. In this case Disney are trying to promote sales for other disney events most likely to incease fan loyality. They are giving me the chance to win tickets to disney on ice (Oh yes) and also the oppourtunity to get up to 30% off at disney land paris. One clever campaign disney had last year was advertised on television and it was the children under 7 go free to disney land sadly I was only 11 years above the requirements but this obviciously identifies with their target audience.
In terms of the lion king musical however they offer group sales. A clever way to fill the seats for less. They allow educational groups of over 10 people to save up to £35 per ticket if they agree to the terms and conditions in this case term time tickets during the week.

From the print screen below we see emails from the Disney company. I was pretty dissapointed with the amount of emails they sent me. as you can see they sent me a total of 4, hardly pushing the boat out.

Lion king sponsor?
In comparsion from the London Drinker Beer and Cider festival, the Lion King Musical does not appear to have any sponsors. From what I can find, the lion king musical does not actually have any sponsors as it is funded by its creator disney. Disney as a company does not need sponsors for its events because of its huge revenue at roughly $40.893 billion in 2011 according to wikipedia. Although it has fallen short of its expetations because of the recession it is not exactly struggling to get along. After looking at the other disney musicals such as mary poppins and tarzan I could not see any other sponsors thus confirming my belief that disney does not need sponsors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Walt_Disney_Company http://www.marypoppins.com/
